June 2022: 50bp hike and the EOFY pivot
The RBA went 50bps in June. EOFY 2022 closed with the slowest national growth in two years.
The aggressive pace
From 0.10% in April to 0.85% in June — 75bps in two months. The bond market priced terminal cash rates above 3.5% for the first time since 2012.
The investor pivot
FY23 strategy was now defensive: lock fixed where possible, build offset balances, defer non-essential acquisitions, harvest depreciation on existing new-build assets. The first 'hold and consolidate' EOFY since 2018.
